San Diego Weekend Guide: April 11-13 – Eggs & Avocados

Spring doesn’t just mean blossoms. It means Easter eggs and bonnets too. The holiday is a week away, but this San Diego weekend head out for the hunts – but there’s music, films and fests to be found too.
Jump N Funk is a multimedia experience honoring the sonic legacy of the late Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. The San Diego debut of the show is presented in partnership with Professor King Britt through his Blacktronika course at UC San Diego and features DJ Rich Medina. Tickets are free for the show, at 7 p.m. Friday at Conrad Prebys Experimental Theater on UCSD’s campus.
The San Diego Arab Film Festival concludes this weekend with evening screenings each night that pair a feature and short film. Among the works: Bassima’s Womb, about a woman who takes desperate action when her husband is deported, and A State of Passion, a documentary on how a doctor survives in war zones time and again. Individual screenings, at MOPA, at the San Diego Museum of Art, cost $15.
